A new species of free-living nematode, Oncholaimus rivalis sp. n. found in sediment of high-mineralized rivers of Lake El'ton basin (Russia) is described and illustrated. Oncholaimus rivalis sp. n. is close to O. bajulus Paramonov, 1937, but differs from it in the comparatively shorter pharynx, longer buccal cavity, short body narrowing in front of anus in females and longer spicules. Pictorial and dichotomous keys for identification of valid species from the "oxyuris" group of the genus Oncholaimus are given.
